New Security Updates!

You take great care to protect your member’s sensitive information.  IHP similarly values your private data and goes to great lengths to ensure its security.  Whether you are a HIPAA-covered entity or independently value your member’s confidentiality, IHP’s new security protocols guarantee your satisfaction.

Beginning Monday, November 18th, 2013 Center Account password requirements will be updated to require a minimum of eight characters.  In order to verify that your account falls under this new security protocol you will be required to reset your password as of Monday morning.  It will still be necessary to have a combination of letters and characters, at least one upper-case letter and no more than two identical characters in a row.  It is pertinent to know that your account password requires precise specificity and is case sensitive.

Additionally, if anyone tries to log into your center account more than three consecutive times with the incorrect login credentials the account will now lock. This new feature is designed to prevent unauthorized access to information intended only for your account manager.  In the event of accidental lockout, please e-mail the IHP project manager, Bob Starr, at bstarr@interactivehealthpartner.com.

Also, all passwords for member and center accounts are now stored in a heavily encrypted form. This change prohibits passwords from being viewed by both members and center coordinators alike, much like bank account websites or large retail sites. Full account functionality remains intact, however, as passwords are still able to be reset by center coordinators.

All personal information, including member passwords, can be changed by clicking on the “Member Profile” link from a member’s profile inside of “Manage Member”.  In the event of a lost password the lost-password system must now be used to restore access.  This system will e-mail your center coordinator detailed instructions on how to reset your log in code.  In order to guarantee the functionality of this tool, please confirm in your center account that all center coordinator email addresses are current and up to date.

Thank you so much for your understanding as these changes are implemented!

Team Reports Give Insight Into Activity

Many centers have the need to generate detailed activity reports for each team in their center.  Whether to provide motivation, hold competitions, or even to simply improve your understanding of each team’s performance, IHP’s new Team Report fits the bill.

Reports can now be generated for each unique team in your center. Every member’s activity as well as the total success of the team over a given period of time is displayed by steps, minutes, calories or distance traveled.  Sortable by groups and sources, you control exactly what you wish to see for the time period that you wish to see it.

If you would like further information or desire a demonstration for these new reports please don’t hesitate to contact IHP’s Communications Manager, James Lowe, at 877-654-3837 x121 or via email at jlowe@interactivehealthpartner.com.

Moderate Exercise Makes Middle-Aged Women Happier

It seems moderate exercise, vs. all out intensity makes middle-aged women happier and exercise retention rates higher. Women reported they felt energized and confident that they could continue to exercise in the future when participating in moderate activities such as walking, water aerobics, doubles tennis, biking on flat ground etc…

AACVPR Convention

Denise AllenThe IHP team was recently at the AACVPR convention in Anaheim, California.  Tom Spring, from William Beaumont Hospital and Janet Brady, the IHP’s Director of Medical Programs, presented a vendor session on the Exercise is Medicine initiative to a group of 50+ Cardiac and Pulmonary professionals.  The response was incredibly positive and the IHP received a lot of great exposure during the 3-day event.  The AACVPR Board of Directors met with the IHP Team and is very interested in pursuing a relationship with the IHP Team as they move forward with the EIM initiative.

The IHP Group is excited to be the exclusive technology partner to support the Exercise is Medicine™ (EIM) initiative. Exercise is one of the most forgotten prescriptions, a prescription that for many physicians can be a challenge. The online system the IHP Group is designing for the EIM initiative will simplify and streamline the exercise prescription process.  “We’ve seen the power of exercise to prevent and treat chronic diseases,” said James Whitehead, CEO of the American College of Sports Medicine. “This tool, being developed with the Interactive Health Group, takes us a giant step toward making physical activity a part of every patient’s healthcare plan. Active Aging at Home

Denise Allenby Denise Allen
Fitness Training & Corporate Wellness

The 2010 Healthy Aging Trends report, included with the ICAA’s Journal on Active Aging, stated that most older adults would like to “age in place” by staying in their own homes- living independently, while, at the same time, have access to services and programs that support their independent lifestyle.

The primary goal of a community-based healthy aging program is to improve the health and fitness of older adults rather than continue to provide traditional “illness” or “treatment” care.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could access an older adult’s balance, prescribe a home based program to improve their overall balance and then, if needed, provide exercise equipment to use in their home to prevent a fall?  What a wonderful alternative to simply providing a wheelchair after a broken hip!  This common sense approach supports evidenced based practices and is now being recognized by insurance companies and government agencies as a viable solution to prevent injuries, illnesses and impairments of the growing older adult population.

Evangelical Homes of Michigan is leading the way in embracing this model of care, and using technology to focus on health outcomes rather than as “gadgets” that try to justify their cost and functionality.  According to Stephen Hopkins, Executive Director, technology will serve three primary roles in home wellness: data collection, prompting interventions, and social connectivity.

With the aid of the Interactive Health Partner, Evangelical Homes and their senior service providers are using technology to provide an outcomes-based health program for older adults both inside and outside their center walls.

SJH Fitness Connection uses IHP’s integration

South Jersey Healthcare Fitness Connection

Nearly 800 people have become members of South Jersey Healthcare since last fall when they implemented the Interactive Health Partner (IHP) online health and fitness management system.  This growth can be attributed to the efficient linking of the physician’s electronic medical records (EMR) system with the IHP system.  It’s a valuable integration that connects the physician to the healthcare professional.  Physicians prescribe exercise to their patients and the medical fitness center uses the IHP to implement the exercise prescription, log patients’ activity, track patients’ progress, change vital statistics, and generate useful reports for the referring physician.  “The IHP has been an excellent tool for our medical integration,” says Brittany Raup, PREP Coordinator and ACSM Certified Health Fitness Specialist.

An integral part of being a medical fitness facility is being able to exhibit medical integration with health care providers and the healthcare system.  The South Jersey Healthcare Fitness Connection, an MFA certified facility, was looking for ways to become more integrated within the medical community.  A significant step was the development of a Physician Referred Exercise Program (PREP).  As the Fitness Connection searched for a better way to track information they discovered the IHP online health and fitness management program.  The IHP allows the Fitness Connection to collect important health history information, vital stat records and medication and supplement information, as well as review patients’ personal goals, readiness for behavior change, exercise logging, fitness assessments and outcomes.  Most importantly, the IHP allows the Fitness Connection to stay connected with their members and with referring physicians.  As PREP continued to grow, it became necessary to send reports to the referring physicians regarding patients’ progress and vital stats.  This was originally performed via fax, but then became automated by linking the IHP’s Physician Summary Report into MobileMD, the server for the physician portal, so that the summary is now part of the patient’s health information.

This integrative step is important not only for the Fitness Connection, but also for the medical fitness industry as a whole in finding ways to incorporate exercise as a vital stat measurement and as a part of a whole-person wellness model.  The use of the IHP system makes this transition easier.  Now medical fitness centers are able to link into the physician portal for information sharing as well as run detailed reports for each of their programs and special populations.  IHP has been an excellent tool for medical integration, and helps medical fitness centers adhere to the Medical Fitness Association’s high standards for certified medical fitness facilities.
